Keith, born and raised in Calgary, developed an early interest in sports. Passion combined with a natural athletic ability lead to competing in a variety of sports. Hockey, soccer, swimming and tennis were actively pursued. After a few years his primary focus became soccer. However, due to his competitive nature and an ambition to be the best, the team aspect was not the best fit. While continuing in soccer at a competitive level until the age of 15 Keith began to develop a strong interest in individual sports. Having played tennis from a young age recreationally, he took it to a competitive junior level. Due to a number of factors Keith made a transition to squash, which soon became his real passion.
Sports were not the only interest that developed early on for Keith. His family provided a strong musical influence from day one. His father, Rob, has played the guitar since high school. Keith's older brother, Martin, followed in Rob's footsteps learning guitar at the age of 8 and also taking up squash at the age of 13. After a couple of years Keith's need to be different resulted in the purchase of a drum kit. Going to concerts like the Rolling Stones and the Counting Crows, and playing percussion in the school music program allowed his love of music to grow. This passion for music continues to grow all the time with the discovery of new music and learning to play the guitar and harmonica. Keith played in a band throughout high school that has performed professionally and competed in battle of the bands competitions also having self recorded a few of their songs. He currently is not seriously involved with a band but frequently plays the guitar and jams whenever his schedule allows it.
With almost all of Keith's extended family living in Europe he has traveled frequently to his parents' homelands of England, Denmark and Wales. This gave him the opportunity to travel to neighboring countries such as France and Belgium. The extensive traveling caused Keith to develop an interest in other cultures and languages. This lead to a Bilingual Diploma completed in the French immersion program at William Aberhart High School. Squash presented the perfect opportunity to combine traveling and competing, having taken him to New Zealand, Pakistan, El Salvador, Germany, the Netherlands, the United States and all over Canada. He also took Spanish for two years in High School and would like to one day become trilingual.
